ORIGINAL PEOPLE: WHO’S THE REAL RYAN BLEIBTREY? Monday, August 20, 2012
When he’s not planning dinners, Ryan Bleibtrey likes spending time with his son and taking to the road on anything with two wheels. Ryan’s our Executive Chef at The Original—downtown Portland’s nostalgic diner and supper club—and he’s proud to participating in the Taste of Oregon and Gourmet Fair, an exclusive International Food Bloggers Conference tasting session put on by the online culinary encyclopedia, Foodista.com, and by Zephyr Adventures, trip planners for the nation’s intrepid travelers, hikers, bikers, inline skaters and eaters.
But what’s he like, really? Meaning who is he and what inspires him?
Read on to find out.
What is your favorite spice? Espelette chili : ).
If you were to make a bumper sticker, what would it say? Git it gurl!!!
Beatles or Stones? Stones. No comparison there. They truly captured rock ‘n’ roll, and have been doing it consistently ever since. Where are The Beatles?
What is your favorite Portland food truck? Nong’s Khao Man Gai. Oh my god that shit is good. Add liver and extra sauce every time (cuz I drink the sauce afterwards).
Automobile, bike, bus or foot? Auto for family time, bike for fun and sport, motorcycle for dates and blowing off steam, walk all day everyday. I have no patience for the bus.
Which genre of music would score your life, and why? Old School country music. It’s real life, it’s honest and it sounds purty.
What is your secret talent? I am hiccup-proof.
What do you put on hotdogs? Mustard, kraut, onions.
On his IFBC menu: Bite-Sized Chicken Pot Pies, made with locally raised chickens and seasonal organic vegetables (and they’re gluten-free!), and Ambrosia, the creamy fruit salad made with pineapple panna cotta, lemon marshmallows and orange mousse (vegan).
The Taste of Oregon and Gourmet Fair takes place from 7-9pm on Friday, August 24, at the Portland DoubleTree.
