ORIGINAL SPIRITS: BETWEEN THE SHEETS

Sex and Death. We’re always thinking about one while trying to forget the other.

Which is no doubt why we drink. It keeps our mind off the latter whilst simultaneously helping us ease us our way between the old sheets—which, coincidentally (if case you couldn’t see it coming), is the name of our weekly Homegrown Wednesdays cocktail.

So what’s in our local take on this somewhat classic, though not very euphemistically named bracer?

Well, normally brandy, but why settle for brandy when you can make it with bourbon instead? Burnside Bourbon, to be precise, courtesy of the fine folks at Eastside Distilling.

Mix in some benedictine, some cointreau and some lemon juice, and you’ve got a pretty potent cocktail that could weaken anyone’s knees.

Which is why send sparks flying, literally, with a flamed grapefruit twist, showering the drink with the citrusy oils like a flash of shooting stars.

It’s cuts to the potency and mellows out the drink.

But don’t take our word for it. Try one yourself and see if it doesn’t help get you euphemised.
