ORIGINAL SPIRITS: CRANBERRY THYME

ORIGINAL SPIRITS: CRANBERRY THYME Monday, February 11, 2013

Cranberry‘s good for the blood, good for your ticker, and it’ll help you fight off colds even as you brave the winter winds.

Boil some down and add a shot of gin to what’s left, and you’ve got something that’s good for the soul, too.

And that pretty much sums the Winter Wonderland Cocktail that we revive every November before quietly retiring it each spring.

Adding the shot’s the easy part, but that Cranberry Thyme Soda? That takes some alchemy.

So our kitchen gold-spinners start with grated ginger, black peppercorns, red chile flakes, some sprigs of the titular thyme and, of course, and 48 ounces of cranberries—that’s three pounds of cranberries per soda batch!

Add in that some spicy gin—with, for good measure, a shot of Lillet—shake it up, serve it up and garish with an extra sprig of thyme, and you’ve got a pleasantly spine-tingling cockle-warmer that’ll brace you for the winter’s cold.

So get one now, because with spring just around the corner, it won’t be around for long.
