The Dark ‘n’ Stormy’s name kinda says it all: and if you say it en EspañolOscuro y Tormentoso—it seems to say even more.

So how do you improve on a Caribbean cocktail that requires of you simply a glass, a spoon, some ice, a lime, some rum and some ginger beer?

Well, you can’t. Not really. But you can use it to stage something both familiar and different. And that’s what our Cruz Control signature cocktail is. Think of it like the Dark ‘N’ Stormy’s balmier, more temperate cousin after the clouds have parted and the rains have stopped.

Our version obeys the DNS’s list of ingredients, so we keep the lime, the rum (Cruzan), and the ginger (our housemade Ginger Mint soda).

But we also mix it up just so, by splashing in a few drops of Grapefruit Bitters, and floating atop it a dash of Aperol. What you end up with is a Dark ‘n’ Stormy that’s neither dark, nor stormy.

Rather, it tastes like a sunset, feels like summer and looks like a Maxfield Parrish sky.
