ORIGINAL SPIRITS: THE ‘RITA Thursday, February 21, 2013

No Rita—not Hayworth, nor Moreno, not even the Meter Maid—shall be as timeless as the one we’re itching to put in your hands and down your hatch.

And our ‘Rita Margarita trumps what has sadly become the norm, because we give the standard Margarita mix a pass, because mixes are blech.

Rather, we build ours with a base of housemade Triple Sec (grain alcohol, sugar, orange zest), as well as a couple dashes of Saint Germain elderflower liqueur.

Next comes the lime juice and then, of course, the showstopper: Tequila—in this case a citrusy and peppery shot of 100 percent blue agave Leyenda del Milagro Blanco.

Shake it all up, pour it all out into an agavenectar-and-Maldonsalt-rimmed rocks glass, spritz it with some Orange Flower Water, garnish it with an origami-like, flower-shaped candied orange rind and voilà! A Margarita that’ll start your Rs rolling.
