Spring is one of those seasons in Portland where the excitement for new produce and product knows no bounds. Chefs have access to Oregon’s bounty of incredible foods grown right in its backyard. We’re celebrating the new season at The Original and our upcoming dinner menu additions are perfect showcases of these treasures.
Early spring for The Original means the launch of Chef AJ’s new dinner menu. Having fresh, raw, briny oysters paired with our own barrel aged, smoky mignonette is one of the many ways the kitchen gives guests the whole local experience. Our avocado toast and Oregon Salad make the perfect lunch combination featuring some of the brightest and freshest local produce.
Chef AJ and his team are starting the menu out with some of our favorite local ingredients like Tillamook Cheese in the “OG Queso Fundido” and “Donut Burger Sliders”. The Queso is also an appetizer made for sharing and features some of our house made chorizo and green chiles. One of the highlights to our new “Crispy Cauliflower” is the local arugula pesto and perfect crunch from Oregon hazelnuts.
The Original in its roots of being a diner has always offered breakfast items all day long, but some all-day items are far from ordinary and feature local favorites like “Our Chicken and Waffles” – chicken confit with Oregon’s own Tillamook cheddar and jalapeno waffles topped with smoked syrup. The layers of flavors built on this dish are incredible: savory, sweet, smoky and spicy. Classic dishes like eggs benedict get a fresh and local twist with smoked steelhead – a true Oregon treasure.
The creativity and mix of delicious flavors doesn’t end with dinner. It extends into our dessert offerings – like “boozy” milkshakes. When is the last time you shared ”The Salty Jim”? This shake is pure dessert heaven – bourbon, salted caramel and vanilla ice cream.
We’re super excited to launch these new items because they complement the already classic, delicious dishes that we’re known for like our seven, thick and juicy burgers (always customized to make it just how you like it), our Northwest Clam Chowder with Oregon Coast razor clams, some of the best in the city. Chef AJ has embraced the classics that we love and really amplified the flavor with each ingredient. We can’t wait to share these dishes with you.
